芒硝主含硫酸钠，为渗透性盐类泻剂，并具外用消炎消肿作用。
Mirabilite is chiefly sodium sulfate — an osmotic saline laxative with topical anti-inflammatory and decongestant uses.
硫酸钠在肠道不被吸收，通过渗透作用保留水分而致泻。
Sodium sulfate is not absorbed in the gut and produces osmotic retention of water to induce purgation.
孕妇禁用——刺激肠道可能引发子宫收缩；脱水、电解质紊乱、肾功能不全者慎用。
Contraindicated in pregnancy — intestinal irritation may trigger uterine contraction; caution with dehydration, electrolyte disturbance, and renal impairment.
芒硝咸苦大寒，软坚泻下，与大黄相须用于阳明腑实证。
Salty-bitter and very cold — softens hardness and purges; paired with rhubarb for yangming organ excess.
《中国药典》规定 Na₂SO₄·10H₂O 含量不少于 99.0%。
Chinese Pharmacopoeia requires Na₂SO₄·10H₂O content ≥99.0%.
