The moderate pulse arrives gently at four beats to a breath, like willow twigs swaying in a light breeze.
Four beats per breath, arriving and departing evenly and gently. Unhurried and firm, it is the normal pulse bearing stomach qi; gentle yet forceless, or combined with other features, it signals dampness or spleen deficiency.
Moderate and spirited is the normal pulse, an expression of stomach qi. Sluggishly moderate indicates spleen deficiency and dampness encumbering the middle.
