From the Shang Han Lun, this formula uses Da Huang to drain heat and free the stool, Mang Xiao to soften hardness and moisten dryness, and Gan Cao to moderate the purgative action for a gentle but effective result. Indicated for Yangming dryness-heat binding internally with predominant dryness and hardness but without focal distension.
