The dried tuber of Bletilla striata (Orchidaceae). Enters the Lung, Liver, and Stomach channels. Bitter, sweet, astringent, and cool, it is the key herb for astringent hemostasis and wound healing, with particular efficacy for Lung and Stomach hemorrhage. Combined with san qi for hemoptysis, it is extensively used in modern practice for peptic ulcer bleeding, pulmonary tuberculosis cavitary hemoptysis, and surgical hemostasis.
长于收敛止血、消肿生肌,为主要炮制品
内服6–15g;研末吞服每次3–6g。外用适量,研末涂敷。因其含黏液质,入汤剂易糊,宜研粉冲服或另煎。

不宜与乌头类药物(川乌、草乌、附子)同用(十八反)。外感咳血、肺痈初起脓未成及实热壅肺者不宜。
含大量黏液质,可形成保护膜,护肺胃黏膜。不宜与乌头类药物同用(十八反)。实证、热证出血初起慎用。现代用于肺结核、胃溃疡出血及外科创口愈合。
味苦,平。主痈肿恶疮败疽,伤阴死肌,胃中邪气,贼风鬼击,痱缓不收。
