The resinous heartwood of Aquilaria sinensis (Thymelaeaceae). Enters the Spleen, Stomach, and Kidney channels. Pungent, bitter, and warm, it is a sinking and descending substance that moves qi without injuring the upright, warms the middle without drying harshness. It both moves qi to alleviate pain and warms the Kidney to grasp qi and calm wheezing. Featured in Si Mo Tang and Chen Xiang Jiang Qi San.
行气止痛、纳气平喘、温中止呕
煎服1–5g,宜后下;入丸散每次0.5–1g,多作冲服或磨汁服。因含挥发油,不宜久煎。

本品为瑞香科植物白木香(国产沉香)或沉香(进口)含树脂的木材,真伪优劣差异极大:国产白木香 Aquilaria sinensis 为药典所载正品,进口沉香多来自 A. agallocha 及 A. malaccensis,因野生资源稀少,市场伪品、次品繁多,入药须鉴别。阴虚火旺者不宜。
治一切冷气,攻冲心腹刺痛,及虚寒喘急,用沉香、木香、乌药等分,磨汁温服,名四磨汤。

Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum contains agarospirol and related sesquiterpenes, 2-(2-phenylethyl)chromones, and volatile oil, with qi-descending, sedative/hypnotic, anti-inflammatory, and prokinetic activity.
《中药学》(Bensky)指出沉香入煎剂应后下或研末冲服,以免有效挥发成分损失。
Bensky notes that Chen Xiang should be added late or taken as a powder to preserve volatile constituents.
