The dried aerial part of Andrographis paniculata (Acanthaceae). Cold and bitter, entering the Heart, Lung, Large Intestine, and Bladder channels. Clears heat, resolves toxicity, cools the blood, and dries dampness. Widely used for upper respiratory infections and gastroenteritis; its active compound andrographolide has been developed into numerous proprietary medicines.
