The dried rhizome of Alpinia officinarum (Zingiberaceae). Enters the Spleen and Stomach channels. Pungent-hot, it disperses cold and stops pain, especially suited for epigastric pain from Stomach cold. Classically paired with xiang fu in Liang Fu Wan.
