The dried hook-bearing stem of Uncaria rhynchophylla and related species (Rubiaceae). Enters the Liver and Pericardium channels. Sweet and cool, it clears Liver heat, pacifies Liver yang, and extinguishes Liver wind, making it a key herb for childhood convulsions, hypertension, and wind-stirring patterns. Commonly paired with tian ma in Tian Ma Gou Teng Yin and Ling Jiao Gou Teng Tang.
息风止痉,清热平肝,多生用后下
煎服3–12g;不宜久煎,应后下,煎煮时间不超过20分钟,以免有效成分(钩藤碱)破坏而降低降压息风之效。
