The dried ripe seed of Cassia obtusifolia or C. tora (Fabaceae). Cool, sweet, bitter and salty, entering the Liver and Large Intestine channels. Excels at clearing Liver fire to brighten the eyes; widely used for red, swollen, painful eyes. Also moistens the intestines, promotes bowel movement, and calms Liver yang for headache and dizziness.
