The dried leaf of Eriobotrya japonica (Rosaceae). Enters the Lung and Stomach channels. Bitter and slightly cool, it clears the Lung, transforms phlegm, and stops cough, while also directing counterflow downward to stop vomiting. A fine herb for Lung-heat cough and Stomach-heat vomiting. The famous Pi Pa Gao (loquat syrup) is based on this leaf. Must be decocted wrapped in cloth after removing dorsal hairs.

煎服6–10g,须刷去绒毛或布包煎。止咳宜蜜炙,止呕宜姜汁炙。

Loquat leaf contains amygdalin and triterpenoid acids (ursolic acid, oleanolic acid), with antitussive, anti-inflammatory, antiemetic, and antimicrobial activities.
