Sweet and warm, it is the principal herb for expelling roundworms, especially suitable for pediatric ascariasis and nutritional impairment (gan ji). Its sweet flavor and pleasant aroma make it well-accepted by children, and chewing the raw seeds is effective, which accounts for its frequent appearance in pediatric formulas across dynasties.
