The dried ripe fruit of Nandina domestica (Berberidaceae). Enters the Lung channel. Sweet, bitter, and neutral with slight toxicity, Tian Zhu Zi stops cough and calms panting, and is traditionally used for chronic cough, wheezing, and whooping cough in children. Should be used in moderate dose owing to its cyanogenic constituents; combining with moistening herbs such as Bai Bu or Kuan Dong Hua tempers its acridity and broadens its clinical application.
Reference range for non-pregnant adults. Not a personalized prescription. Pregnancy, lactation, and pediatric use require specialist supervision.
Protective guidance only — when to avoid or use with caution. This block deliberately omits pregnancy, lactation, and pediatric dosing: any such use must be managed by a qualified TCM practitioner or appropriate specialist.
