The dried rhizome of Smilax glabra (Liliaceae/Smilacaceae). Neutral, sweet and bland, entering the Liver and Stomach channels. Resolves toxicity, eliminates dampness, and frees the joints. Historically the primary herb for syphilis in the Ming dynasty; now broadly used for damp-heat skin conditions and joint swelling.
