The dried ripe seed of Prunus humilis, P. japonica, or P. pedunculata (Rosaceae). Enters the Spleen, Large Intestine, and Small Intestine channels. Pungent, bitter, sweet, and neutral, its laxative action is stronger than huo ma ren, and it additionally directs qi downward and promotes urination. It is particularly suited for constipation due to Large Intestine qi stagnation with fluid depletion, and for edema with inhibited urination.
