Lung-Spleen Qi Vacuity Pattern

Treatment Principle

补肺健脾，化痰止咳

Supplement the Lung and fortify the Spleen; transform phlegm and stop coughing

Cardinal Symptoms · 主症

cough with shortness of breath
copious white sputum
poor appetite and reduced food intake
abdominal distension with loose stools

Secondary Symptoms · 次症

sallow complexion
mental fatigue and lack of strength
low voice and reluctance to speak
facial puffiness and limb edema

Etiology · 病因

Prolonged cough damaging the Lung, which fails to distribute fluids to the Spleen; or Spleen vacuity failing to transmit food essence upward to the Lung.

Pathomechanism · 病机

Lung and Spleen qi are vacuous; phlegm-dampness arises internally.
