Xīn Yīn Xū Zhèng

Heart Yin Vacuity Pattern

Treatment Principle

滋阴降火，养心安神

Enrich yin and direct fire downward; nourish the Heart and calm the spirit

Cardinal Symptoms · 主症

palpitations and vexation
insomnia with excessive dreaming
heat in the five centers (palms, soles, and chest)
tidal fever and night sweating
redness of both cheekbones

Secondary Symptoms · 次症

dry mouth and parched throat
forgetfulness and excessive dreaming

Etiology · 病因

Excessive thinking and mental exertion silently consuming Heart yin, or late stages of febrile disease damaging yin humor, or Liver-Kidney yin vacuity with water failing to control fire.

Pathomechanism · 病机

Heart yin is vacuous and depleted; vacuity heat harasses internally, and the Heart spirit is unquiet.
