白头翁含三萜皂苷和原白头翁素等内酯，具抗阿米巴、抗菌、抗炎和止痢作用。
Bai Tou Weng contains triterpene saponins and protoanemonin-type lactones with amoebicidal, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antidiarrheal effects.
白头翁苦寒，清热解毒，凉血止痢，为治热毒血痢要药。
Bitter-cold; clears heat, resolves toxin, cools blood, and stops dysenteric disorder; a principal herb for heat-toxin bloody dysentery.
