煎服6–10g；鲜品加倍。本品为禾本科淡竹叶属植物，与竹类植物（竹叶、竹茹）来源不同，须严格区分。

淡竹叶主含C-糖苷黄酮（牡荆素、荭草素）、三萜类及钾盐，药理示其利尿、解热与抗氧化作用，临床用于热病烦渴及热淋涩痛。
Lophatherum contains C-glycosyl flavonoids (vitexin, orientin), triterpenoids and potassium salts; pharmacology shows diuretic, antipyretic and antioxidant effects, clinically used for febrile vexation-thirst and heat-lin dysuria.
《中国药典》规定淡竹叶来源为禾本科淡竹叶 Lophatherum gracile 的干燥茎叶，与竹类植物区别。
Chinese Pharmacopoeia specifies Dan Zhu Ye as Lophatherum gracile (Poaceae), distinct from true bamboo species.
Bensky 将淡竹叶列入清热泻火药，强调与竹叶（Phyllostachys）及竹茹来源不同，不可混淆。
Bensky classifies Dan Zhu Ye among heat-clearing fire-draining herbs and emphasizes it is not the same plant as Zhu Ye (Phyllostachys leaves) or Zhu Ru.

【辨识要点】本品为禾本科淡竹叶属多年生草本 Lophatherum gracile 的干燥茎叶，与真正的竹类（禾本科竹亚科）植物来源不同，不可与竹叶（鲜竹叶，Phyllostachys spp. 叶）或竹茹（zhu_ru，竹类茎秆中间层）混淆。现代药典明确区分三者。
淡竹叶，处处原野有之，春生苗，高数寸，细茎绿叶，俨如竹米落地所生，其根一窠十数须，须上结子。味甘、淡，性寒，能清心火，利小便。
