味苦，寒。主大水，身面四肢浮肿，下水，杀蛊毒。

瓜蒂含葫芦素B等三萜类，刺激胃黏膜引起反射性呕吐，并有保肝与抗肿瘤研究。
Gua di contains cucurbitacin B and other triterpenoids; stimulates gastric mucosa to induce reflex vomiting. Hepatoprotective and antitumor potential under investigation.
《中国药典》收载瓜蒂，规定含量限度与毒性警示。
