乳香为橄榄科 Boswellia 树脂，主含乳香酸（尤其 AKBA）及挥发油，现代研究显示其为 5-脂氧合酶抑制剂，具抗炎、抗关节炎及抗肿瘤的临床前与部分临床证据，对应传统活血止痛、消肿生肌之功。
Frankincense (Boswellia) resin contains boswellic acids (notably AKBA) and volatile oils. It acts as a 5-lipoxygenase inhibitor with preclinical and some clinical evidence for anti-inflammatory, antiarthritic, and antitumor effects, aligning with its traditional blood-moving and swelling-reducing use.

Chen & Chen 记载乳香为胃肠道刺激物，易致恶心呕吐，与没药同用减量；有接触性皮炎与过敏反应报告。

Brinker 提示 Boswellia 提取物可能增加 CYP3A4 底物代谢，与化疗药合用需谨慎。
