阴虚劳嗽及风热燥咳者忌用。本品有绒毛，入煎宜包煎，以免绒毛刺激咽喉。
本品花冠附有白色绒毛，煎服须布包，否则绒毛脱落刺激咽喉引起呛咳。
味咸，温。主结气胁下满，惊悸。除水，去五脏间寒热，补中下气。

旋覆花含倍半萜内酯（旋覆花素、旋覆花内酯）和绿原酸等，具有祛痰、止呕、抗炎及镇咳作用。
Inula flower contains sesquiterpene lactones (britanin, inulicin) and chlorogenic acid, with expectorant, antiemetic, anti-inflammatory, and antitussive activities.
降气化痰，降逆止呕，消痞散结。配代赭石为旋覆代赭汤。
Directs qi downward and dissolves phlegm, redirects counterflow and stops vomiting, disperses focal distention. Paired with dai zhe shi in Xuanfu Daizhe Tang.
《中国药典》收载旋覆花，以绿原酸为含量测定指标。
The Chinese Pharmacopoeia lists Inulae Flos with chlorogenic acid as assay marker.
