From the Shang Han Lun, this treats counterflow cold of the extremities due to yang constraint (not yang vacuity). Chai Hu raises and disperses to vent pathogens, Bai Shao constrains yin and harmonizes the nutritive, Zhi Shi moves qi and breaks binds, and Gan Cao harmonizes — together they course the Liver, regulate the Spleen, and free constrained yang. The foundational formula for Liver-Spleen harmonization.
