The carapace of the Chinese soft-shelled turtle Trionyx sinensis (Trionychidae). Enters the Liver and Kidney channels. Salty and cool, it enriches yin and subdues yang, reduces vacuity fever and eliminates steaming bone heat, and searches out pathogens lurking at the yin level for late-stage warm disease with night fever and morning coolness. It also softens hardness and dissipates nodules for concretions and malarial masses. Wu Jutong's Qing Hao Bie Jia Tang employs the 'entering first, exiting after' synergy between bie jia and qing hao.

Turtle carapace contains collagen, calcium salts, free amino acids and trace elements; pharmacology shows immunomodulatory, anti-hepatic-fibrosis, mass-softening and plasma-protein-raising effects.
