The dried ripe seed of Areca catechu (Arecaceae). Enters the Stomach and Large Intestine channels. Bitter, pungent, and warm, it is the foremost antiparasitic herb, with particular efficacy against tapeworms when combined with nan gua zi (pumpkin seed). It also moves qi, promotes urination, disperses accumulation, and interrupts malarial attacks. Featured in Da Yuan Yin and Mu Xiang Bing Lang Wan.
Reference range for non-pregnant adults. Not a personalized prescription. Pregnancy, lactation, and pediatric use require specialist supervision.
Protective guidance only — when to avoid or use with caution. This block deliberately omits pregnancy, lactation, and pediatric dosing: any such use must be managed by a qualified TCM practitioner or appropriate specialist.

Arecae Semen contains arecoline, a muscarinic agonist, with taenicidal (especially for tapeworm and Fasciolopsis), prokinetic, and miotic effects; long-term betel chewing is linked to oral submucous fibrosis and oral cancer.
Bensky documents the Bing Lang–pumpkin seed combination as a long-standing and effective Chinese clinical protocol for tapeworm expulsion.
Chen & Chen note that arecoline overdose can cause salivation, nausea, bradycardia, and dyspnea; contraindicated in children, pregnancy, and GI ulcer disease.
Brinker notes that betel-quid chewing is classified by IARC as a Group 1 human carcinogen, causally linked to oral submucous fibrosis and oral cancer.
