The dried ripe fruit of Psoralea corylifolia (Fabaceae). Enters the Kidney and Spleen channels. Pungent, bitter, and warm, also known as po gu zhi. It is the key herb for warming Kidney yang, grasping qi to calm wheezing, and warming the Spleen to stop diarrhea. It serves as the chief in Si Shen Wan for Spleen-Kidney yang vacuity with dawn diarrhea (wu geng xie). Applied externally it treats vitiligo.

引药入肾，温肾纳气、固精缩尿之力增强，并缓和辛燥之性
煎服6–10g。外用适量，酒浸涂患处。

阴虚火旺、大便秘结者忌服。本品性温燥，阴虚有热者不宜。外用或内服后需避光，以防光敏性皮炎。现代报道有肝毒性，不宜长期或大剂量服用。
含补骨脂素等呋喃香豆素类成分，具光敏性，服用或外用后须避免阳光暴晒，以防光敏性皮炎、色素沉着。现代有肝损害报道，肝功能异常者忌用，不宜长期超量服用。
补骨脂，治肾泄、通命门、暖丹田、敛精神。能使心包之火与命门之火相通，故元阳坚固，骨髓充实，涩以固脱也。
补骨脂主五劳七伤，风虚冷，骨髓伤败，肾冷精流。又主妇人血气堕胎。

Psoraleae Fructus contains furanocoumarins (psoralen, isopsoralen), bakuchiol, and flavonoids, with photosensitizing, kidney yang-tonifying, antiosteoporotic, and pro-pigmentation activity; drug-induced liver injury has been reported with internal use.
