The dried root of Angelica pubescens (Apiaceae). Enters the Kidney and Bladder channels. Pungent, bitter, and slightly warm, it excels at dispelling wind-dampness and relieving impediment pain in the lower body, with particular affinity for the Kidney channel. It stands in complementary pairing with qiang huo, which governs the upper body and greater yang wind-dampness. Zhang Zhongjing's Du Huo Ji Sheng Tang is the archetypal formula for chronic wind-cold-damp impediment with Liver-Kidney vacuity.
