The dried bark of Eucommia ulmoides (Eucommiaceae). Enters the Liver and Kidney channels. Sweet and warm, it is the key herb for supplementing the Liver and Kidney, strengthening sinews and bones, and calming the fetus. It treats Liver-Kidney insufficiency with lumbar-knee soreness and threatened miscarriage, and additionally lowers blood pressure. Clinically it is usually salt-processed (yan du zhong) to direct its action to the Kidney.
