Gan Sui's principal bioactives are ingenane-type diterpene esters providing potent cathartic water-driving action with marked irritancy and toxicity; vinegar processing reduces toxicity.
甘遂苦寒有毒,泻水逐饮,消肿散结;孕妇及体弱者禁用;不宜与甘草同用(十八反)。
Bitter-cold and toxic; drains water and thin-mucus accumulation, disperses masses; contraindicated in pregnancy and debility; incompatible with Gan Cao (18 antagonisms).
