The dried aerial part of Artemisia scoparia or A. capillaris (Asteraceae). Enters the Spleen, Stomach, Liver, and Gallbladder channels. Bitter, pungent, and cool, spring-harvested material is called 'mian yin chen' (cotton artemisia) and autumn-harvested is called 'hua yin chen' (flower artemisia). It is the essential herb for resolving jaundice. In Yin Chen Hao Tang it is combined with zhi zi and da huang to treat yang-type jaundice.
