The dried tuberous root of Curcuma wenyujin, C. longa, C. kwangsiensis, or C. phaeocaulis (Zingiberaceae). Enters the Liver, Heart, and Lung channels. Pungent, bitter, and cool. Two main varieties are distinguished: guang yu jin (yellow-silk, from Zhejiang) excels at moving qi and resolving constraint, while chuan yu jin (black, from Sichuan and Guangxi) excels at invigorating blood and dispelling stasis. Cold in nature and entering the blood level, it is described as 'qi within the blood.'
