Yuan Hua contains daphnane diterpene esters (yuanhuacine, yuanhuadine) and flavonoids with potent cathartic, abortifacient, and antineoplastic activity, all with marked toxicity.
芫花苦辛温有毒,泻水逐饮,祛痰止咳,外用杀虫疗疮;孕妇禁用,不宜与甘草同用。
Bitter-acrid and warm with toxicity; drains water, transforms phlegm, relieves cough, and is used topically; contraindicated in pregnancy and with Gan Cao.
