Fèi Yīn Xū Zhèng

Lung Yin Vacuity Pattern

Treatment Principle

滋阴润肺，清热止咳

Enrich yin and moisten the Lung; clear heat and stop cough

Cardinal Symptoms · 主症

dry cough with no phlegm, or scant sticky phlegm
blood-streaked phlegm
dry mouth and throat with hoarse voice
afternoon tidal fever and heat in the five centers
malar flush and night sweating

Secondary Symptoms · 次症

emaciation
dry sore throat

Etiology · 病因

Chronic cough damaging the Lung and consuming Lung yin, consumption parasite attacking the Lung, or late stages of febrile disease depleting Lung yin.

Pathomechanism · 病机

Lung yin is vacuous and depleted, giving rise to internal vacuity heat, and the Lung loses its clearing and moistening function.
