Gān Yáng Shàng Kàng Zhèng

Liver Yang Rising Pattern

Treatment Principle

平肝潜阳，滋阴降火

Pacify the Liver, subdue yang, enrich yin and direct fire downward

Cardinal Symptoms · 主症

dizziness and tinnitus
distending pain of the head and eyes
red face and eyes
impatience and easy anger

Secondary Symptoms · 次症

insomnia with excessive dreaming
soreness and weakness of the lower back and knees
bitter taste in the mouth

Etiology · 病因

Emotional disharmony with Liver depression transforming into fire; or Liver and Kidney yin vacuity where water fails to moisten wood, so yang becomes hyperactive above.

Pathomechanism · 病机

Liver and Kidney yin are vacuous below, while Liver yang is hyperactive and counterflowing above.

Treating Formulas · 主治方剂

半夏白术天麻汤

Bàn Xià Bái Zhú Tiān Má Tāng

Pinellia, Atractylodes and Gastrodia Decoction
