The dried ripe seed of Plantago asiatica or P. depressa (Plantaginaceae). Enters the Liver, Kidney, Lung, and Small Intestine channels. Sweet and cold, it is a widely used herb for promoting urination and relieving strangury that disinhibits the water passages without injuring yin. It additionally brightens the eyes and expels phlegm, and has been used across dynasties for strangury patterns and summerheat-dampness diarrhea.
