The fresh or dried rhizome of Phragmites communis (Poaceae). Enters the Lung and Stomach channels. Sweet, cold, and lightweight, it clears heat without damaging the Stomach and generates fluids without retaining pathogenic factors. An excellent herb for warm-disease fluid damage and Stomach-heat vomiting. Wu Jutong used fresh reed rhizome decoction as the liquid medium in Yin Qiao San.
