The dried fruit of Forsythia suspensa (Oleaceae). Enters the Lung, Heart, and Small Intestine channels. Bitter and slightly cold, it is light and ascending, excelling at clearing Heart fire, resolving sore-toxin, and venting wind-heat outward. Historically honored as the 'sage herb for sores' (chuang jia sheng yao), it treats warm diseases at all four levels and all forms of abscesses and carbuncles.
