Anxiety falls within the TCM categories of constraint pattern and palpitation with fright. It presents with restlessness, inability to settle, and excessive worry. It typically arises from emotional injury causing qi stagnation that transforms into fire disturbing the Heart.
Key differentiation: Liver qi stagnation type has anxiety with hypochondriac distension and sighing; Heart-Spleen vacuity type has palpitations, insomnia, and poor appetite; yin vacuity fire type has dry mouth, night sweating, and five-center heat.
