金匮肾气丸

Jīn Guì Shèn Qì Wán

Kidney Qi Pill from the Golden Cabinet

Zhang Zhongjing's classical formula from the Jin Gui Yao Lue, also called 'Eight-Ingredient Kidney Qi Pill.' It uses small amounts of gui zhi and fu zi within a large yin-nourishing base (Liu Wei Di Huang Wan structure) to 'benefit the source of fire to dispel the shadow of yin,' exemplifying the method of 'seeking yang within yin.' Later Liu Wei Di Huang Wan was derived by removing the warm herbs; Ji Sheng Shen Qi Wan adds niu xi and che qian zi.

Jin Gui Shen Qi treats Kidney vacuity: Shu Di, Shan Yao, Shan Zhu Yu; Mu Dan Pi, Fu Ling, Ze Xie, plus Gui and Fu — leading fire back to its source so heat descends.
