Created by Qian Yi in Xiao Er Yao Zheng Zhi Jue, this is the representative formula for Liver-Kidney yin vacuity. Composed of shu di huang, shan zhu yu, shan yao (three supplementing herbs) and ze xie, mu dan pi, fu ling (three draining herbs), its meticulously balanced 'three supplements and three drains' configuration established the paradigm for all subsequent Liver-Kidney yin-nourishing formulas.
