Stomachache refers to pain in the epigastric region. The Stomach governs reception and decomposition of food, preferring moisture and downward movement. Emotional disturbance, dietary irregularity, external pathogen invasion, and Spleen-Stomach weakness can all cause stomach pain.
Key differentiation: Cold-type worsens with cold and improves with warmth; heat-type has burning sensation with bitter taste; qi stagnation presents as distending pain relieved by belching; vacuity type shows dull pain that prefers warmth and pressure.
