Constipation refers to difficulty passing stools, prolonged intervals between bowel movements, or straining despite the urge. The disease site is the Large Intestine, but it involves the Lung, Spleen, Stomach, Liver, and Kidneys.
Key differentiation: Heat constipation has dry hard stools with flushing and heat signs; qi constipation has difficulty despite desire with frequent belching; vacuity type has soft stools but no power to expel; cold constipation has difficult passage with pale face and cold aversion.
