Edema presents with fluid retention manifesting as swelling of the face, eyelids, limbs, abdomen, or the entire body. The pathomechanism involves the Lung failing to regulate water passages, the Spleen failing to transport, and the Kidneys failing to open and close properly.
Key differentiation: Yang edema has acute onset starting from the face (repletion); yin edema has gradual onset starting from the feet (vacuity).
