Infertility refers to the inability to conceive after two or more years of regular unprotected intercourse. TCM considers it closely related to dysfunction of the Kidneys, Liver, and Spleen, and disharmony of qi and blood in the Chong and Ren vessels.
Key differentiation: Kidney yang vacuity shows long-term infertility with delayed scanty pale periods; Kidney yin vacuity shows early scanty red periods; Liver stagnation shows irregular timing with premenstrual breast distension; phlegm-damp shows obesity with delayed periods or amenorrhea.
