The fresh or dried tuberous root of Rehmannia glutinosa (Scrophulariaceae). Enters the Heart, Liver, and Kidney channels. Sweet, bitter, and cold, it is the foremost herb for clearing heat and cooling blood, nourishing yin and generating fluids, and is the first choice for warm-disease patterns involving the constructive and blood levels.
